A GROWING SUCCESS HISTORY

Founded in September 2006 by twenty-five keen tenpin bowlers representing five nationalities, Euro Bowling Torrevieja has quickly developed into one of Valencia's leading bowling clubs.
And already counting more than 130 members at the end of its first year, EBT is clearly one of Spain's biggest Bowling Clubs.

EARLY REGIONAL SUCCESS:
EBT makes an impression on the highest level of Valencian tenpin bowling.

March 2007:  "Master de la Comunidad Valenciana", Valencian Individual Championships:

Bob Day (ENG) wins the men's 1st Category, Lynne Ailsby (ENG) does the same in the ladies' 1st, Pirjo Koski (FIN) and Mirja Hakonen (FIN) finish first and second, respectively, in the ladies' 2nd Category, while Lesley Gamblen (ENG) wins the ladies' 3rd Category.
April 2007: Valencian Team Championships:
Both EBT's ladies and men take first place at Ozone Bowling (San Vicente, Alicante).  Apart from the impresive trophies, the most coveted prize is a place in the National League Trials in Madrid at the end of June 2007.
February 2008:  Valencian Gold Cup ("Copa de Oro"):
A handful of bowlers represent EURO BOWLING TORREVIEJA in this three-leg handicap tournament that requires bowling in all three provinces of the Land of Valencia. EBT scores a 'double whammy' through Pirjo Koski (FIN) who wins the ladies' competition, and Jarmo Peltonen (FIN) who does the same in men. And then, ...
April 2008:  Valencian Individual Championships:
This edition of  "Master de la Comunidad Valenciana" takes place in Ozone Bowling Torrevieja, the first official tournament arranged by Euro Bowling Torrevieja.
If 2007 was a great success for the bowlers of 'Saltlake City', this time it's even greater as EBT's bowlers -up to 23!- take a whopping nine trophies out of a total of sixteen.

June 2007: National League Trials:

De izquierda a derecha y de atrás a adelante: Bob Day, Juanjo Carral, Hannu Vanhalakka, Bosse Söderström, Lesley Gamblen, Lynne Ailsby, Inga Söderström, Jarmo Peltonen y Eija VanhalakkaEuro Bowling Torrevieja competes against regional teams from all over Spain at Planet Bowling Tres Aguas (Alcorcón, Madrid). One female team and two male teams will win promotion to the National League of 2007-08.
EBT's ladies -Lynne Ailsby (ENG), Lesley Gamblen (ENG), Inga-Lill Söderström (FIN), and Eija Vanhalakka (FIN)- beat their opposition and clinch a place in the ladies' First Division, training their sights on the "Premiership" (División de Honor) the following year.
the male team -Juanjo Carral (ESP), Bob Day (ENG), Jarmo Peltonen (FIN), Bosse Söderström (SWE) and Hannu Vanhalakka (FIN)- also bowl well, but only manage to finish fourth, just a few pins from straight promotion. But then ...
October 2007:
the Spanish Bowling Federation sends EBT a note inviting us to step into the National Men's League:

Spanish Doubles' Championships:
Nuestros Campeones de España por parejas (con camiseta azul): Olli Lepännen y Shane WinnfieldEBT only have two doubles, one in ladies and one in men, but both put in a sterling performance at Planet Bowling Aqua in Valencia: the men, OlliNuestras SubCampeonas de España por parejas (con camiseta azul, a la derecha) Pirjo Koski y Lynne Ailsby posan con las Campeonas Alejandra Sandoval y Estrella Pascual (del Club Ilicitano) Leppänen (FIN) and Shane Winfield (ENG), take an early lead in the 3rd Category and manage to maintain it until the end, thereby winning the Spanish Championship! the female double, Pirjo Koski (FIN) and Lynne Ailsby (ENG), finish runners-up in the ladies' 1st Category. In addition, Pirjo clinches third place in the ladies' individual contest.
April 2008:  Last Round of the Spanish League:
EBT's ladies travel to Barcelona while the men go all the way to Oviedo (Asturias).  The ladies are in third place, they have practically secured their place in the First Division for the next season, but could even finish first and win promotion to the Premiership ("División de Honor") -if all went extremely well.  the story is very different for the men: they are fighting against relegation.

At the end of the day, our ladies finish in second place, EBT's Lynne Ailsby (ENG) being the best individual with an excellent average, 191.40, including the high game and high series of the day, 244 and 461, respectively.  EBT's men fight all the way and manage to stay in the Second Division, sending their last opponents, Les Gavarres of Catalonia, to relegation.

June 2008:  National Championships of the Autonomous Regions:
Valencia's ladies and men travel to Madrid to meet the rest of Spain's regional teams at this annual event.
Three EBT bowlers have been selected for Valencia:  Lesley Gamblen (ENG), Lynne Ailsby (ENG) and Bob Day (ENG). the Valencian ladies win their championship, while the Valencian men finish as runners-up.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER:
EBT presented in Europe

Adding to the considerable national success of our great international family, EBT is getting to be known even beyond Spain's borders. Many of our seniors travel every year to European Championships - congratulations for your bronze medals, Pirjo and Mirja!. Moreover, the EBT Summer Tournament at Europe's largest bowling centre, Tali Bowl in Helsinki, has become a popular August tradition for Club members and invited guest bowlers.
August 2007:  Presenting EURO BOWLING TORREVIEJA in Finland:

June 2008:  European Senior Championships at Nantes, France:
Two of EBT's ladies, Mirja Hakonen (FIN) and Pirjo Koski (FIN) win bronze in the Ladies' Doubles, B Category -Congratulations!
